Transfermation - A mural project in downtown Owen Sound

Transformation, by Raquell Yang

The visual imagery of the mural weaves together themes of the natural and man-made world, and their interdependence.

As a natural carbon sink, whales can help humanity fight climate change. Scientists say “To save a single whale is to save 1,000 trees.”

The eye and the globe are surrounded by sunlight. The concept of the ‘butterfly effect’ further underscores the interconnectedness of all life, and pushes us to consider our shared future.

Plaster casts evoke the artist’s memories of studying drawing. Michelangelo’s David and Venus embody the classical virtues of strength and beauty.

The native flowers of Ontario encourage us to think about how so many unique species can flourish together in harmony.

We all need transformation in this moment and into the future.

During the Covid -19 pandemic, I had an opportunity to worked with a mural project in downtown Owen Sound. This garden space is own by Grey gallery. The wall is outside of gallery building. I started this project in July and finish it around the first week of November, 2020. Thank you, Anne and John trust my skill and gave me the freedom to gathered all the inspiration with this project.
